Sometimes soft, sometimes harsh.

Sometimes melodious, sometimes discordant.

Language is music, and music is language. I learned this as a performer and composer, and I learned it again a writer.

Listen not just to the meaning, but to the texture and the rhythms. Hear how together they create a counterpoint. A polyphony of images produced by one solitary voice.

This is the power of poetry. The music of language.
