I got my guitar out for the first time in years. It’s a 1984 Ibanez Roadstar II—like the one on the right, but with a few dings after thirty years. I bought it the summer after I graduated from high school with all the money I had saved working a miserable retail job in the four weeks leading up the the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. I was broke the rest of the summer, but I didn’t care. I had a great guitar.
It lasted me three decades and it still plays great. If I wanted to sell it, I could get more than I paid (excluding inflation, of course), but I never will. After this long, I could never part with it.
After I got it out, I found a great video online reviewing a blue version of my guitar.
And another with various effects …
This video encouraged me to look up some of the other gear I own that’s still in storage in San Diego. I’ll be featuring a different gadget her each Monday—along with the story behind it—for the next several weeks. I hope you enjoy it.
